A combination of the 4 recent avatars donning the famous pose from the Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" Cover. I created this illustration myself and put a lot of time into little details to make sure each Avatar was accurate (Korra, Aang, Kyoshi and Roku).

Years back I had a funny idea to reimagine the famous “Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody” album cover pose but instead of the band Queen, it would be the 4 recent Avatars from the “Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend of Korra” series. I created the drawing in my sketchbook and inked it… and then did nothing with it (a usual fate for my drawings of the time).

Fast forward to this year, I was showing my old sketchbooks to my boyfriend and upon seeing this piece he said “I’d wear that on a shirt”. I had a moment where I agreed that the design was clever but I thought it was “too old” since I illustrated it years ago. A few weeks later I found myself wanting to draw something, but without the imagination to create something new… so I re-inked this Avatar drawing in ProCreate on my IPad Pro.

I’m very happy with this piece because not only does it represent my love for Avatar (and Bohemian Rhapsody) but it also represents a new mindset I’m trying to adopt about revisiting old ideas. While I have greater skills now than in the past, I seem to have lost some of the raw imagination that made me want to develop the skills in the first place. Something about social media made me think I had to constantly make something new… but where’s the harm in going back and refining something from the past?

I’m hoping this is the beginning of revisiting some ideas that I wasn’t ready to realize fully and also to continue going easier on myself and how much I feel I need to create as an artist.
